Dear Students
Welcome to AIU. First of all, I would like to personally congratulate all of you to have been given this wonderful opportunity in your life to study at AIU and to receive an Albukhary Foundation scholarship reserved for deserving disadvantage students who come from all over the world
Understandably, you may have many fears and concerns, especially arriving and being here as not only an international student to adapt to the new environment, which is a mix of local and diverse international cultures and languages, but also to a place of learning that is completely unique.
Student Affairs staff are here to assist you with your concerns and encourage your overall development, integration and involvement with student life at AIU. Services include recreational activities, sports, culture, arts, societies, other ancillary student events, hostels, food and beverage, community service engagements, health and wellbeing, and counseling.
Student Affairs therefore encourages the development of multiple abilities /intelligences, clear communication, teamwork, social cohesion, self-empowerment (to look after yourself with the minimum of resources), and most importantly to be caring, giving and respectful young adults.
We all need to strive to be cost efficient in all student related activities, adhere to AIU rules and prevent an entitlement mentality as AIU is a special university with a special mission, vision and values.
Like you, I come from a family background that did not have the luxury of further educational opportunities and as a first generation scholar, my parents realized the value of education to escape the cycle of poverty and sacrificed their lives to send me and my elder sister for further education that they themselves never had. The Albukhary Foundation Scholarship given to you is therefore a once in a lifetime opportunity for you to change not only your circumstances but also to better the lives of many through ongoing service.
