The University is cognisant of the importance of research and will provide an annual allocation for it. Faculty are encouraged to seek external research funding and to be involved in joint research with colleagues from other institutions, locally and internationally.
Faculty are expected to publish their research outcomes, especially in international refereed journals. Research will be managed by the University Research Committee.
In line with the Philosophy of AIU and the Vision and Mission of the University, research is focused amongst others on:
• Understanding the phenomenon of people living in the world in underprivileged and disadvantaged communities.
• Joining the search for solutions for the condition of living in underprivileged and disadvantaged communities.
• Understanding the philosophy and nature of Community Service and what effective and efficient Community Service would entail in a particular community.
• Developmental Studies in the quest to eradicate the conditions of being underprivileged or disadvantaged.
• The role of universities in developing countries.
