Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q)

What are the entry qualifications for admission into the Foundation programme at AIU?
A pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), or “O” level with 5 credits, or pass in United Examination Certificate (UEC) with 4Bs or other equivalent qualification inclusive of Mathematics and English.

What are the entry qualifications for admission into the degree programme at AIU?
A pass in AIU’s Foundation programmes or its equivalent, or A pass in Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or High School Certificate (HSC) or “A” level with 3 principals or other equivalent qualification, or a diploma from a recognized institution.

When is the date of commencement for the next academic sessions?
The next academic sessions starts in September 2011. Please visit the website www.aiu.edu.my for the academic announcement.

What is the method of application?
Application is by using the AIU Application form, which can be downloaded from the web-site or by writing to the Registrar’s Office for hardcopy. Application is to be submitted together with required support documents.

When is the closing date for application?
For the September 2011 intake, the closing date is 31st May 2011.

What are the programmes offered in Albukhary International University?
We offer both Foundation Studies and Undergraduate programmes through the School of ICT and School of Business. Please refer to our website for further details on our course offerings.

How much is the tuition fees for each programme?
There are no tuition charges. All AIU students will be fully sponsored for tuition fees, meals, accommodation, and examination fees by the Albukhary Foundation.

What about transportation costs to AIU?
Candidates have to bear their own cost of travel to AIU, including incurring their travel documents.

How long does it take to complete the Foundation Studies?
One year.

Where could I get information about the intake and admission criteria?

Will there be any provision of accommodation on campus?
All AIU students are provided with free on campus accommodation.

What do I need to do if I wish to change course upon receiving the offer letter?
Usually we don’t encourage students to change course, however, applications may be entertained if there are places in the programme. You will need to discuss this with the academic advisor on campus.

Can I apply for the degree program with qualifications or foundation certificates obtained from other educational institutions?
Yes, you may.

What documents are required for my application?
Some of the required documents are;
• Academic transcripts.
• Letter of recommendation stating the status of your economic background.
• Certified copy of Identification card.
• For international students, a full copy of their passport.

Who can certify the above documents?
Principal of School, Head of Government departments, court officials or public notary.

Is AIU a recognized university?
AIU is a private University and is registered with the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (KPT/JPS/DFT/US/K03). The academic programs offered have approval from the Ministry.

What is the medium of instruction at AIU?
The medium of instruction at AIU is English.

Is there any religious affiliation required at AIU?
AIU is open to all faiths, religions, race, nationality or creed.

What kind of graduate programme are offered at AIU?
Currently, AIU is focused on Foundation and Undergraduate studies. We may consider graduate programmes in the future.

Are there any remedial English Language classes for new non-speaking English students?
AIU requires that all students must be proficient in English and remedial English classes are incorporated in the Foundation programme.

Is there any English proficiency tests requirement for admission?
Yes. It will be conducted on campus or in the state or country of the candidate of it is economically viable to do so.

What does the Albukhary Foundation (Yayasan Albukhary) sponsor?
Albukhary Foundation will sponsor the following;
• Tuition fees
• Examination fees
• Daily Meals
• Accommodation
• Student health insurance

Albukhary Foundation will NOT sponsor/pay the following:
• Transportation costs (e.g. flight tickets)
• Visa fee
• Passport costs

Is there any admission interview?
Yes, to ascertain your academic and economic qualification.
For local candidates, the interviews will be conducted at selected locations.
For international candidates, the interview will be conducted either by AIU’s official or representative or by The Malaysian Consulate/Commissioner. For some cases, interviews may be done on-line.

Who are your lecturers?
AIU’s lecturers comprised well qualified academics from various background and countries.

Are there any opportunities for students to work on campus?
All AIU students are required to participate in social and charity work, such as work in AIU Library, Home for the Elderly, The Orphanage, Cafeterias, Hospital, and etc. This is part of the AIU ethos to develop caring and committed humanitarians.
