Albukhary International University

About The Campus

The university campus occupies about 45 acres within the 75 acre Pusat Ilmu Sharifah Rokiah, one of the flagship charity projects initiated by the Albukhary Foundation. The campus was designed along Islamic principles and showcases some of the most beautiful examples of Islamic architecture from around the Middle Eastern countries. It is an eco friendly walking campus where buildings are located in a hierarchical order of importance radiating from the mosque as the heart and soul of the campus. Immediately surrounding the mosque are the Convocation Hall, Library and Main Administration buildings. The next circular layer of buildings comprises the various Schools and Faculties, Lecture Theatre Complex and the Student Centre. The outer layer of buildings comprises the student hostels, dining halls, sports and recreational complex and other ancillary buildings.

The layout of the campus with the Albukhary mosque placed at the pivotal position, and spanning into concentric circles throughout the campus depicts the overarching values based on devotion to God, and compassion for Humanity. This arrangement points to the "soul" of AIU that radiates outwards to all parts of the campus and its community to strive for educational and intellectual excellence.

1. Student Residence

AIU students will be provided with a place they can call home. All the fully furnished residential hostels are newly completed with attached bathrooms in each room and students should find the rooms very comfortable for sleep, study and harmonious living with their fellow room mates. The buildings are designed with an internal courtyard to provide more natural lighting and fresh air ventilation to all rooms. Facilities in each hostel block include a visitors lounge, study room, laundry room, pantry, utility room and WIFI Internet is also provided. There is a warden’s apartment within each group of hostel blocks.

2. Library

The library is a four-storey building constructed in the Safavid architectural style. The pièce de résistance of the library is a replica of the Dome of the Rock also known as Masjid Qubbat As-Sakhrah. More than 1000 students can be accommodated at one time to study and do research. It also houses a large Internet facility room, a Young Minds Corner for Children and a café. Reading materials include hardcopies and virtual access to thousands of references.

3. Lecture Theatre

The architecture of this building reflects the Süleymaniye Mosque from Turkey during the Great Ottoman Empire. The building houses 6 lecture theatres which can seat 200 to 250 people and are fully equipped with computers and projectors. Formal and informal lectures will be held here. One of the lecture theatres has been designed as an auditorium for small events, performances and cultural activities.

4. Student Centre

This is the place that gives AIU scholars the opportunity to gather with friends, take study breaks, hang out, relax and unwind after a day of classes and activities. The Student Centre will be the hive of student activities. All student associations and clubs will be provided with their own rooms to facilitate the organisation of activities.

5. Convocation Hall

The grand Convocation Hall can be used for big events as it can seat more than 1000 people at a time. The Convocation Hall is equipped with the latest multi media and audio vision technology and facilities.

6. Sports Complexes and Sports Courts

The various outdoor sports facilities and indoor sports complex will provide students with the necessary recreational facilities they need. Besides the sports complexes, regulation size sports courts close to students’ hostels have also been constructed for student use. The multiple purpose sports and recreational hall is where the students can interact and have activities out of the classroom. Court games like badminton, volleyball and table-tennis are provided. There is also a football field on the campus.

7. Dining Hall

Dining on campus provides the social experience essential to campus life. These are the places where students gather and socialise over food and drinks. The 2 dining halls on the campus operate 7 days a week, to serve food and beverages to all AIU students.
