Library Rules and Regulations

Rules at a Glance
1.  Library staff have the authority to maintain good order in the library. The Chief Librarian may exclude from the library or suspend from its use any person who behaves in an unacceptable manner or infringes the regulations.
2. Users are required to treat the library environment with respect and the library staff with respect and courtesy.  Should any incident be reported, Library staff will pursue the matter with the appropriate authority.
3. Silence should be observed in all designated areas.
4. Smoking, eating, drinking (other than plain water) and the use of mobile phones is not permitted in the library.

 

Admission
The following persons are allowed to use the Library:
1. Registered students and academic staff of AIU
2. All other members of administrative, research, technical and clerical  staff of the University
3. Staff of Albukhary Foundation and its subsidiaries
4. Students and Academic staff of other universities with a letter of introduction from their universities and membership fees
5. Secondary school children

 

Borrowing
1. The AIU identification card is the library card. A special card will be issued to all other categories of membership. This card must be presented for all borrowing transactions.  The card will also be needed at the self-check station. Using someone else’s library card for borrowing is strictly prohibited
2. No library material may be taken out from the premises unless the loan has been recorded. The borrower shall be responsible for loans until the record has been cancelled.
3. Loaned items may not be transferred from one borrower to another but must be returned to the Library and be formally re-issued.
4. A borrower is held responsible for the safe custody of materials on loan. The borrower shall be required to pay the cost of replacement of any item lost or damaged whilst on loan.

Renewals
Library users may renew any materials borrowed from the AIU Library twice provided that no other person has made a request for the item. Renewals could be done either online, DIY at the self-check station or at the Circulation Desk by presenting the book and a current identification card.

Reserves/Holds
Registered library users may place a hold on an item that is checked out to another user.An email notification will be sent when the item is returned.

Overdue Fines
As a deterrent for late renewals, library materials borrowed are subjected to the following overdue fines:

Open-Shelf RM 0.50 per day
Red-Spot RM 0.50 per hour
Textbook RM 1.00 per day


Weekends and days of which the library is closed are included when overdue fines are figured. The book drop is always available for returns.
Overdue notices will be sent through email. These notices are a courtesy. Failure to receive a notice does not constitute a basis for altering or negating a fine.

Library users must present their library card to pay overdue fines. They will not be allowed to check out any more materials when their fines reach the ceiling amount of RM10.00.

Lost Book Charges
Defacement of or damage to  any library material will result in a fine of RM100.00 and appropriate disciplinary action. Delinquent borrowers will not be permitted to receive grades, transcripts, or other credit for work completed at AIU until all charges are cleared. Library users who lose books will be expected to replace the book of the same or latest edition or to pay the replacement cost of the book plus a RM25.00 processing fee.

Dress Code
The Library subscribes to the AIU Student Dress Code. Students are reminded that they must be properly and decently attired when they are in the library.

Improper attire includes the following:
o Singlets
o Low neckline blouses and spaghetti straps
o Shorts
o Mini skirts
o Midriff blouses
o Slippers
o Facial rings or studs (except nose rings)
Library services will be denied to those not complying with the above regulations

Personal Property
1. Neither the Library nor the University authorities accept responsibility for the loss of any personal property left in the library premises.
2. Property left on chairs and tables by readers to reserve places in their absence may be removed by the Library staff to make room for other readers
